
ABCDx today announced the publication of new pediatric traumatic brain injury research in Frontiers in Neurology, further strengthening the scientific foundation of its blood-based biomarker portfolio for traumatic brain injury.
The study, led by Dr. Anne-Cécile Chiollaz and Prof. Jean-Charles Sanchez with Swiss pediatric clinical partners, identifies interleukin-10(IL-10) as a promising early blood biomarker associated with persistent post-concussion symptoms in children after mild traumatic brain injury.
Persistent post-concussion symptoms remain difficult to predict at emergency department discharge. Today, clinicians lack objective tools to identify which children are most likely to need structured neuropsychological follow-up. In this exploratory study, IL-10 measured within24 hours of injury was significantly elevated in children with symptoms persisting at both 14 days and 3 months, with an AUC of 79.9% for predicting persistent symptoms.

The publication complements ABCDx’s broader scientific and patent portfolio in traumatic brain injury, including biomarkers such as GFAP,H-FABP, S100b, NfL, NT-proBNP, IL-6 and IL-10. It also supports the company’s strategy to develop blood-based diagnostic and triage tools for acute neurological conditions, with potential applications in emergency departments, pediatric care and future point-of-care testing.

ABCDx considers this publication an important additional validation of its translational approach: combining clinically relevant biomarkers, prospective patient cohorts and acute-care workflows to develop future diagnostic products.
The authors emphasize that the findings remain exploratory and require confirmation in larger independent cohorts before clinical implementation.
