Geneva, Switzerland and Barcelona, Spain — 14 July 2026 — ABCDx SA, a company developing blood-based diagnostics for brain injury, today announced the issuance of a key United States patent covering biomarker-based methods for selecting stroke patients for reperfusion therapy.
The patent, U.S. Patent No. 12,681,022, entitled “Method for Selecting a Patient for a Reperfusion Therapy,” is scheduled for registration by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on 14 July 2026. The patent application was filed by Fundació Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron – Institut de Recerca, with commercial rights licensed to ABCDx.
The granted claims strengthen ABCDx’s U.S. intellectual property position around biomarker-based methods for identifying patients with large vessel occlusion stroke and supporting selection for reperfusion therapy. The patent includes protection for clinically relevant biomarker combinations involving GFAP, D-dimer and NT-proBNP, with additional claim coverage involving clinical parameters. These biomarkers are central to the development of rapid blood-based approaches intended to support emergency and pre-hospital stroke triage.
“This U.S. patent represents an important milestone for ABCDx and for the protection of our stroke diagnostic strategy,” said Jean-CharlesSanchez, CEO and Co-founder of ABCDx. “It reinforces the scientific and commercial foundation of our LVOCheck programme and supports our ambition to bring rapid, biomarker-based decision support to emergency and pre-hospital stroke care.”
ABCDx is developing LVOCheck, a point-of-care blood test designed to support the identification of patients with suspected large vessel occlusion stroke. LVO is one of the most severe forms of ischemic stroke and may require rapid access to specialised stroke centres capable of performing mechanical thrombectomy. LVOCheck is intended to complement existing clinical assessment and imaging workflows by helping improve early triage decisions, particularly in emergency and pre-hospital settings.
The newly issued U.S. patent adds to ABCDx’s growing international intellectual property portfolio in stroke and traumatic brain injury diagnostics. It further supports the company’s strategy to develop and commercialise rapid diagnostic solutions for time-critical neurological conditions.
“Speed and accuracy are essential in stroke care,” said Professor Joan Montaner, stroke neurologist and co-inventor of the patent family.“Biomarker-based tools have the potential to support earlier identification of patients who may benefit from specialised stroke pathways and reperfusion therapies.”
ABCDx continues to advance its stroke diagnostic programmes through clinical validation, product development, regulatory preparation and strategic partnerships.
