In medicine, a biomarker is a measurable indicator of the severity or presence of some disease state. Biomarkers may be used alone or in combination with other factors to assess the health or disease state of an individual.
Detection and interpretation of the existence or quantities of such a marker, or panels of markers may be used for clinical decisions and patient intervention.
ABCDx activitiy is based upon both the discovery of novel molecular markers and increased innovation and sophistication in the use of combinations of biomarkers and other detectable parameters enabling improved clinical decision making in patients with a variety of brain injury conditions ranging from traumatic injury to stroke and post-stroke complications. The biomarkers used by ABCDx are produced by damaged or stressed brain cells and tissues and released into surrounding body fluids in response to brain stress or injury.
